The following GMs earned their spot on this list for the moves made over the last year. Teams that didn’t actively pursue improvement were left out of consideration.
ATL - Rump had a very impressive season in regards to the direction he wanted to take his rebuild. Never sitting on his hands like other rebuilding teams, he was constantly involved in talks and is positively positioned for a great run.
NYY - What a second half run sparked by some big additions to the roster. Very impressive turnaround as his efforts ruined multiple GMs title hopes during his run.
SD - Danny made savvy moves to improve his team all season long and that shows with his current WS run. Big series, should be a great showdown.
BAL - Took over a dumpster fire and did a very similar thing to TOR last year, took a team that didn’t really have much on paper hopes and won the division anyway. Great season.
NYM - Built a strong team via the draft and added some key pieces along the way. Very well positioned to continue this type of success and should be a frequent member of this award consideration year in and year out.
CLE - Had a great core coming into the season and added huge pieces along the way. Absolutely stacked on offense and on the mound, this WS with SD should be a great one.
MIA - Most of the groundwork was down by the retired GM Dan, but Pat was able to make some key moves as well. We will remember Blaine Hardy for.. the next few weeks for sure.
TB - This dude just trades a lot
KC - Consistently improved as the season progressed, that Arenado move will continue to keep him on this list regardless of the year he made the deal.
BOS- Matt may not jump off the page as a top GM candidate after his down season but he was very active all year long and made moves this will impact his team for years to come.
If you were left off this list and feel like you were slighted, I apologize. Runner ups were MIN, WAS, and TOR.
