Aaron Judge MIL
After a 62 homer season, he slumped to a .265/48/100 season... most players would kill for that slump and MIL is going to ride him on a deep playoff run. His 237 Ks are a problem but he’s great in so many other areas that it doesn’t really matter.
Francisco Lindor MIA
The turn around in Miami was awesome to watch and it doesn’t take an extensive search to find the reason why it happened. His .295/30/95 line and otherworldly defense led to a 8.3 WAR, tops for all infielders in the NL.
Alex Bregman STL
Can you imagine if the Cards had a GM this year? This team was stacked and Bregman really stood out. He led the NL in batting average, and his final line of .317/29/84 led to a 7.1 WAR. This team is filled with offensive talent but Bregman was the clear cut star of the group. Find this man a GM!
Mike Trout COL
The defending MVP did it again, turning in an amazing season even by his standards. His .293/47/106 line was a cut above last seasons MVP run turning in a career high 10.1 WAR. He led the league in OBP with a .458 number helped by his 147 walks, which also led the league. Reinforcements are hopefully on the way, as we’ve watched two historic seasons completely wasted in COL.
Justin Verlander SD
The only pitcher on the MVP ballots, and rightfully so. His 2.22 ERA topped both leagues as did his 21 wins. His 7.0 WAR also led all pitchers in the sport in his age 36 season. Very deserving on his spot on this list.
Eugenio Suarez MIL
Judge’s running mate doesn’t get left off this list. An absolute stud all year long, Suarez turned in a .289/47/106 slash line. He was subpar in the field but his 7.8 WAR more than made up for it. A true career year.
Giancarlo Stanton PHI
Uhhhh... what?? Stanton crushes the HR record with a .291/80/164 season. That wasn’t a typo... this dude just hit 80 freaking homers. He played in all 162 games and was the absolute best player on his team. A 53 RBI difference from the number two finisher was laughable and the 32 home run difference over Judge was stupid. A 9.5 WAR season in a truly amazing season. Wow.
