Trevor Bauer LAA
Led the AL with 20 wins and carried the Angels to another playoff berth. His 221 innings provided the stability his team needed and his 4.6 WAR was among the tops in the AL.
Chris Sale KC
283 Ks was tops in both leagues, and his 227 innings were a sign of his durability and that resulted in a 6.5 WAR. This KC team has a decision to make as he is a pending FA.
Clayton Kershaw SEA
Just a year removed from carrying TOR to a title appearance, Kershaw turned in another impressive season. His 235 innings topped both leagues, and his 264 Ks kept hitters off balance all season long. What’s most impressive is his 16 wins, given that he played for two of the worst teams in the AL this season.
Jacob DeGrom DET
His 2.83 ERA paced the AL, and his 259 Ks helped carry the Tigers to a near playoff berth. With 5 complete games, he led the league and his 5.4 WAR was near the top of the league.
Noah Syndergaard CLE
Acquired prior to the deadline, Noah was able to finish just as strong as he started. He only made 25 starts and still produced to the tune of a 5.2 WAR. He’s a part of one of the more formidable 1-2 punches in the league. His 176 ERA+ was a true sign of his dominant season.
Aaron Nola KC
The second KC pitcher to make this list but in no way any less significant. Nola turned in a career season, his 226 Ks and 1.00 WHIP were his best so far. At age 26, he was able to lower is BB/9 and continued to limit the long ball. Very impressive 6.4 WAR for this Ace.
Max Scherzer CLE
One of the best pitchers over the last decade, he turned in another fine season. His 2.49 ERA would’ve topped the AL had he spent the entire season there. CLE really fortified their rotation with two major pick ups and Max showed everyone why Mitchell made the move. His 6.6 WAR trailed only Verlander and he is in the midst of a playoff run.
