1. Casey Mize St. Louis Cardinals I had the pleasure of watching Casey dominate the FSL before getting promoted to AA and throwing a no no in his first start. Was later shut down for 25 days with shoulder issues. More of a pitcher than a hard thrower, sits between 93 and 95. For the Cardinals sake I hope he is healthy as they finished 30 games below 500. The OOTP game rated him below Mike Soroka and Mitch Keller as pitchig prospects so there is hope for the Cardinal fans.
2. Nate Pearson San Francisco Giants The Giants were an almost 500 team last year and Pearson should be ready to contribute next year as he saw AAA time. The epitome of a SP, has the best fastball and the best slider in the Toronto system. Hit 104 in a 1 inning all star appearance and sits at 98 - 101. Missed all but one start of the 2018 season as a line drove broke his arm. Seems to have recovered nicely.
3. Forrest Whitley Pittsburgh Pirates Frankly I don't get this one. He performance has never matched his stuff. Getting a 50 game suspension for drugs of abuse along with back and oblique injuries ruined his 2018 season. Suffered shoulder inflammation and command issues in 2019 which led to a 12.21 ERA in 8 AAA games in 2019. Pirates hope he puts everything together to pair with MacKenzie Gore who should be on 10 LHP tomorrow.
4. Michael Kopech Colorado Rockies A guy who regularly hit triple digits up to 104 but blew out his elbow and missed the 2019 season. Rex is hoping to pair him up with Jesus Lazardo and Brendan McKay.
5. Sixto Sanchez Atlanta Braves Another flamethrower who sits st 95 - 99, missed time in 2018 for elbow inflammation. As a 21 year old pitched 103 AA innings with an ERA of 2.53. Rumpy needs him healthy as Hunter Greene and Dane Dunning both under went the knife last year.
6. Dustin May Washington Nationals A 22 year old who made his major league debut this year. The Nats were 8 games over 500 in the stacked NL East and came in 4th. May is ready to contribute. While coming up through the Dodgers system was rated higher than Wlaker Buehler. He is by far the Nats best pitching prospect.
7. Matt Manning Houston Astros Another pitcher I had the pleasure of watching in Lakeland, he continues to improve at each step of the Tigers organizational ladder. Some experts rate him over Mize. As a 21 year old spent the entire season in AA striking out better than a batter an inning with a 2.56 ERA. The Astros also have Bruscar Graterol and Adonis Medina right behind him for a trio of 21 or 22 year old pitchers. At 606 Matt could have played PAC 10 basketball. 8. Luis Patino Milwaukee Brewers The youngest guy on the list who only stands 600 but sits in the mid 90's and holds it late in the game. With the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Championship series they can afford to take their time with this diamond in the rough. Right behind Patino in the Brewers system is Cole Wilcox who could be a top 10 selection in this years Major League Draft.
9. Spencer Howard Philadephia Phillies Saw him throw and dominate the FSL for a month before he was promoted to AA. The Phillies came in second in the NL East losing the wild card game. The Phillies have an assortment of riches as Anthony Kay and Shane McClanahan are right behind him.
10. Grayson Rodriguez Los Angeles Dodgers At age 20 he is 605 and 220 pounds, they grow them big in Texas. Drafted out of high school, he spent the entire year in Low A and struck out 129 batters in 94 innings. His fastball averaged over 95 MPH last year . The Dodgers can be patient with him as they were 2 games over 500 and their is a shortage of SP in their lower levels.
