1. Adley Rutschman Available Adley was the first overall selection in the 2019 draft and even with two international classes being added to our draft is a sure fire top 3 pick. He instantly became the face of the Baltimore Orioles rebuilding effort. He led Oregon State to the National Championship. He combines power and average with above average catching ability and should be an all star for years. I did read that they might move him to 1B for longevity reasons but catchers like him don't come around to often.
2. Joey Bart Los Angeles Angels If you didn't know Steph from the hockey league you would be surprised to see that he has been offered in trade talks. The only thing Steph hates more than prospects is draft choices. Joey is considered a top 20 prospect in all of baseball and was the 2nd overall pick of the 2018 draft. In his first full season he played in 22 games in AA and batted 315. Reaching the majors in 2020 is not out of the question. He combines with Nico Hoerner to give Steph two very good position prospects.
3. Sean Murphy Philadelphia Phillies A surprise ranking for me, he is above average defensively. He has missed considerable time the last two years because of injury. At age 25 it is time for him to take the next. He did play in 20 games in MLB for the Oakland A's. In 120 AB's in AAA he did hit 10 home runs and batted 308 (Las Vegas numbers are always high). With Russell Martin aging Anthony is set at catcher with Carson Kelly and Sean Murphy waiting to vie for he starting position.
4. Luis Campusano Washongton Nationals One of three teams in the BRHLO to have a player listed in all three categories that have been released. A 2nd round pick out of high school, Luis has progressed a level each year, playing in High A this year. While still needing work on his defense, he has shown a strong arm and good instincts. At 5'10 and 215 pounds he will have to watch his weight. Has good power, hit 15 home runs and only struck out 57 times in 110 games. He joins Nolan Gorman and Isaac Paredes as top positional players in the Nationals system. The Nats also have Ronaldo Hernandez who very well could have been on this list.
5. Francisco Alvarez Available An 18 year old Mets prospect, he started 2019 in the Gulf Coast League but quickly advanced to a short season team. Playing against much older players, batted 282 in 131 at bats. Based on his size, 5'11, 220 pounds plus the fact his defense needs work, him staying at catcher is not a sure thing.
6. Shea Langeliers Available Another highly regarded catcher who is available in our draft, he was taken by the Braves 9th overall in the 2019 draft and sent directly to Low A ball. He received College Baseball's best defensive catcher award. With plus power and outstanding defense Shea should move quickly through the Atlanta Braves system.
7. Keibert Ruiz Miami Marlins Miami won the NL East with Chance Sisco and Luke Maile behind the plate but help could be coming. Keibert spent the majority of 2019 in AA batting 254 but did get a cup of coffee in AAA. Only 21 he should start next year in AAA. It seems his defense is ahead of his offense at this time. Keibert joins Gain Lux as the two top hitting prospects in the Miami system.
8. Sam Huff Kansas City Royals a 7th round draft pick out of high school in 2016, it took him 2 years to get to a full season league. Once there, he started hitting home runs and hasn't stopped. He exploded this year hitting 28 home runs between Low A and high A. His defense is a work in progress but shows the potential to hit 30 home runs in the majors. An aggressive approach at the plate led to 154 k's. He Joins K'Bryan and Triston Casas as the top hitters in the Kansas City system.
9. Daulton Varsho Colorado Rockies What is a top 10 list without a Colorado Rocky prospect ? Drafted out of college in 2017, he spent this year in AA and batting 301 with 18 home runs in 101 games. He threw out 40 % of base stealers but other parts of his defense needs work. He joins Pete Alonso, Taylor Trammel and Luis Robert as top hitting prospects in the Rockies system.
10. Miguel Amaya Pittsburgh Pirates Another team with prospects in all three categories. Miguel is unusually advanced for a young catcher and played a full season at Low A as a 19 year old and made the Futures game. Played in High A this year and hit 11 home runs but only batted 235. The Cubs believe he has teh upside to be a good hitter. He joins Alex Kirilloff as the top positional prospects in the Pirates system.
