1. Alec Bohm Chicago White Sox Alec was drafted 3rd overall in the 2018 MLB draft by the Phillies. He started last year in the South Atlantic League but batted 367 in 22 games and was promoted to the Florida State League. He only played 40 games there (and I did not get to see him) when he was promoted to AA, where he hit 14 home runs in 63 games. There are questions if he will remain at 3B or be moved to 1B. He joins Cater Kieboom and Ronny Mauricio as the top infield prospects in the White Sox organization.
2. Ke'Bryan Hayes Kansas City Royals Drafted 32nd overall in the 2015 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, to say his defense is very good does him an injustice. It has been mentioned that he is a MLB gold glove contender the moment he makes the majors. He played last year at AAA and batted 265 with 10 home runs, numbers that just ain't going to cut it. In 2018 he batted 293 with 7 home runs in AA. At 601 and210 pounds the Pirates are hopeful that as he matures the power will come. Nolan Arenado is currently the 3B in Kansas City so Bryce can be patient with him. He joins Triston Casas at the top If prospects in Kansas city.
3. Nolan Jones Oakland A's Nolan was the 55th overall selection out of high school by the Cleveland Indians. He turned to baseball after concussion issues cause him to give up hockey. As a 21 year old he split last season between High A and AA. The good is that he homered 15 times and batted 272 with an on base percentage of 409, which is outstanding for a 21 year old. The bad news is he struck out 148 times in 430 at bats. I don't think I have ever seen an OBP that high when someone struck out 34 % of the time. He joins Nathan Lowe and Jonathan India as the top infield prospects in the Oakland organization.
4. Nolan Gorman Washington Nationals Is this the first time Washington has been mentioned in a top prospect update ? I don't think so. Nolan was the 19th overall selection in the 2018 draft and as a 19 year old played 58 games in High A after starting the season in Low A. With a mature body of 601 210 pounds there are thoughts that he might have to move to 1B. He has all the makings of a middle of theorder slugger. I am sure I don't have to mention the Washington prospects that he joins in the organization.
5. Josh Jung available Josh was drafted 8th overall by the Texas Rangers in the 2019 draft. After playing 4 games in the Arizona League he moved to Low A where he played 40 games, batting 287 with 1 home run. Considered more of a hitter than a slugger, the belief is he can stay at 3B and homer 25 times a year.
6. Brett Baty available Another available prospect, Brett was drafted by the Mets 12th overall out of high school. He tore up the Gulf
Coast League for a week before being promoted to the Appalachian League, where he batted 222 with 6 home runs and an OBP of 339. An excellent athlete who also played football and basketball in high school, it is believed that he can stay at 3B.
7. Bobby Dalbec Pittsburgh Pirates Bobby was drafted 118th in the 2016 draft by the Boston Red Sox and was a two way player in college. Bobby averages 33 home runs, 80 walks and 203 strike outs for every 162 games he has played in the minors. While playing the majority of last season in AA with 30 games in AAA he homered 27 times but batted 239. He plays a good enough 3B to stay there. He is another prospect that joins the stacked Pittsburgh organization.
8. Jonathan India Oakland A's The A's are the only team with two prospects on the top 3B list. Jonathan won the "biggest asshole of the year award" among the Lakeland Flying Tigers fans who follow prospects. From the way he walked on to the field by himself and not with teammates to not acknowledging anything said his way screams "asshole". Now that you know how I feel he was drafted 5th overall in the 2018 draft, playing 87 games in the Florida State League with 8 home runs and batting 256. He played 34 games in AA with 3 home runs and batted 270. While a good 3B it is believed he is a good enough athlete to play 2B.
9. Abraham Toro Cleveland Indians Abraham was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 5th round 2016 draft out of a Texas junior college. He played the majority of 2019 at AA, playing 98 games hitting 16 home runs and batting 306. In 16 AAA games he batted 424 which earned him a late season promotion to the Astros, where he batted 218 78 at bats. An adequate 3B he will not take Alex Bregman's job. His BRHLO path is blocked by Matt Chapman. Luis Rengifo is the top IF prospect for the Indians.
10. Kody Hoese available Kody was drafted 25th overall in the 2019 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He batted 357 in 19 games in the Arizona League before being promoted to Low A where he played 22 games batting 264 with 2 home runs. Dodgers believe he will hit both for power and average and should be able to stay at 3B.
