2019 Review:
Record: 54-108 5th in NL Central. R/G Scored: 8th (NL) R/G Against: 15th (NL)
Colorado is still working on amassing as much minor league talent as possible this season and should have a shot at #1 farm system.
Future:
2020 Finacials: 60.3 Mil. So should give them somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-70 Mil to work with. No FAs this year. Trout is after 2020 though.
Lineup: The have one of the greatest of all time players currently roaming CF in Mike Trout. Pretty good to start a lineup out with him. They also have NL Rookie of the Year Pete Alonso who in Coors might have a shot at Stanton's 80. Has top 5 overall prospect Luis Robert and fellow top 100 prospect Taylor Trammel that should fill in the OF around Trout in the coming years. Also have Clint Frazier who really just needs a oppurtunity to play on a consistent basis. On the infield there is Austin Riley at 3B, Willy Adames at SS and as constructed right now Jorge Mateo to fill in at 2B. All top 100 or previously top 100 overall prospects. Daulton Varsho provides a top 100 prospect coming up at the plate with Reese Mcguire and Jake Rogers able to fill in admirably until he is ready.
Pitching Staff: Micheal Kopech, Jesus Luzardo, Brendan McKay, A.J. Puk, and Kyle Wright are all top 100 overall prospects and all in AAA or higher. They also have Brad Keller who has had 2 solid seasons in the majors and Aaron Sanchez who at one time was one of the best young SP in the game but injuries have derailed his career. I don't think the rotation has quite the same type ceiling as the lineup it could still be very good. It may happen that half of these guys end up in the bullpen. I think bullpen help can be addressed later.
Needs: Bullpen maybe. Hard to say specific needs when a team isn't quite ready to compete. I do think the Rockies should be able to compete sometime in probably 2 years.
Trades Overview:
SP Carlos Carrasco to SEA for SP Kyle Wright, CF Luis Robert, LF Dustin Peterson, SP Daniel Gossett, and SP Brad Keller - Looking back at this trade and it is an amazing haul and should set up the COL nicely for the future.
RF Seth Beer and SP Mike Fiers to ATL for 3B Austin Riley - I think this was a great move for COL. Moving a rental SP and a guy that isn't rated in the top 10 of his own organization for a top 30 prospect overall is a great move.
SP Anibal Sanchez and SP Tyler Skaggs to CLE for SP Jimmy Nelson, RP Josh James, 2B Sam Hagerty, and SP JJ Montgomery - Looking at this trade I still feel like the Rockies did really well. Skaggs was a rental and Sanchez was a 35 yr old with 1.5 years left on his contract. Anyways Rex did a good job of moving players that weren't going to be part of his competitive teams into assets that might be.
RF Bryce Brentz to KC for SS Luis Curbelo - Brentz was just have a good sim year which is the reason he had a little value. It still wasn't much as Curbelo is a low tier prospect.
1B Jake Bauers to BAL for SS Orlando Arcia, and RF Tyler Esplin - Bauers has not been good the last few years in the majors so he didn't have a whole lot of value and the Rockies didn't really get a bunch of value in return. Still Acria's defense is good enough that he is playable. Esplin is mostly a non prospect at this point.
FA Overview:
RP Ryan Brasier 4 yr 25 Mil - Cut him in July. Eating the final 3 years of the contract this season I would guess as he has a ton of cap space to do that. D-
