AJ Pollock PHI
Some will call this an outlier year from Pollock, and they would be right. His 56 HRs in 2020 were more than his ’18-’19 output combined. This lends merit to the claim that Anthony is giving his players roids, following the 80-homer season from their reigning MVP. Pollock had 125 RBIs while hitting .309/.349/.657 while sporting a 7.8 WAR. His -6.8 ZR rating in CF was a glaring hole in his resume but he belongs on this list as his 2020.
Joey Gallo CIN
Gallo is the classic 2020 player, tied for the league lead in HRs with 59 while also leading the charge in Ks with 259 fans. He did manage 114 walks, and 104 RBIs to go with his .218/.358/.591 slash line. His 4.9 WAR falls short of some of his counter parts, but his +1.5 ZR rating showed him to be an asset with the glove as well as the bat.
Eugenio Suarez MIL
Back to back strong years from the Brew Crew’s 3B lands him on the ballot for a second consecutive year. Belting 48 homers and driving in 113 RBIs were both improvements on his numbers last year. His 7.4 WAR was a drop from his production the year prior, showing how special of a player he can be. The .280/.360/.570 slash line sets him apart from not only other 3B, but most other players in the league; having said that, his defense is league average.
Juan Soto STL
The 21-year-old played a backup roll last year, being fully unleashed this go round. He exploded to the tune of a .314/.444/.669 line, producing 56 HRs and 111 RBIs. Leading the league in AVG, OBP, OPS, and Soto was head and shoulders above the competition. He made that abundantly clear, with his league leading 11.3 WAR. He also played slightly above league average defense.
Corey Seager ATL
He came to ATL and gave them his best season yet. His 7.7 WAR was a result of his .300/.394/.516 line but his defense is what put him on this list over other Braves standouts, with his +5.8 ZR rating at the leagues toughest position being a clear indicator of his value. His 22 HRs and 82 RBIs were much lower than the others on this list, but his addition to that Braves lineup is the reason for their lineup’s success.
Giancarlo Stanton PHI
Our reigning MVP did his best to repeat last year’s 80 HR show, but wasn’t able to come close. It’s funny that a down Stanton year still looks like a 59 HR season and 129 RBIs but his numbers last year dwarf these. His subpar defense played a big role in his team’s demise, but his 5.8 WAR was also a big reason for their success.
