Alright everyone, after a marathon 100 round draft, we are ready to kick things off and start progressing forward. Make sure you read this in its entirety, there's lots of nuggets you're going to need to know.
Housekeeping
1. Bryce will update at 9pm EST tonight (May 7, 2018). Once you upload the new league file, you can start proceeding with normal operations. See below
2. Eric will take over, and SIM a day Tuesday (May 8, 2018) evening. Make sure you export by 9pm EST to ensure your file is grabbed every night.
3. Wednesday (May 9, 2018) will be the OPENING DAY sim. We will keep proceeding on a daily basis at that point.
4. Tuesday (May 15th) will be the LAST day you can make extension offers to your pending FA's. While we know it takes a few days for them to communicate back, you will not get another chance to sign them until AFTER the season, when we have new OOTP rates.
5. If you're looking for an assistant GM to help run things (at whatever level you deem acceptable), let me know. I have numerous guys wanting to get a foot in the door.
Monday May 8 - First Advancement Sim - What do I need to do?
1. Update your ticket prices. Once we sim forward 1 day (which will be Tuesday Night) season ticket sales are calculated. You can edit them after on a game by game basis, but this is the 1 sim that matters for your season ticket prices. Too high, your base will drop, too low, and you leave money on the table.
2. Get your rosters set. Especially putting anyone on your 25 man roster on your 40 man roster, otherwise we can't sim. You also will be forced to put anyone with a MLB contract onto your 40 man roster as well, even if you want to send them to minors.
3. Your 40 man is always important, if you end up with too many players, you're going to have to waive & dfa some of them, meaning others can poach them.
4. Start signing extensions to your player. With only a 1 week window with these ratings, it's can be a big difference in salaries. This will likely be the only year this is done when the MLB season is already started, due to the timing of us starting.
5. Start signing any free agents (born in 95 or younger) you want. More info under Free Agents section before
Entry Draft
1. Is in reverse order of our fantasy draft. You will be able to view the order when Bryce updates tonight (May 7, 2018).
2. For this season it's a straight 30 teams per round for 10 years. No compensation picks.
3. I will be setting up in short order a google sheet for us to run the entry draft on. It will have all players born in 96 and later left over from our draft, as well as the fully published draft class in OOTP. We will begin making selections, with a timer, once set up.
4. IF you are planning on taking a player who is NOT on the draft sheet provided. You must provide backup as to why he's eligible, and he will be added. There is no-one permitted to be drafted who is not in the sheet.
5. Draft picks cannot be traded.
6. There is no signing of draft picks, you draft him, he's yours.
7. Once the draft is over in game, and players are assigned, they will be auto assigned to your A team
Free Agents
1. Yes you can start bidding on guys like Miguel Cabrera etc. who were not drafted
2. ANY PLAYER BORN IN 1996 OR LATER (97, 98, etc) CANNOT be signed as FA. They will be draft eligible.
3. I've spent hours trying to remove them from the FA list, but here is no clean way to do that, so the onus is on you as a GM to not sign them.
4. I have outlined the punishment for violating this in the rules document brhlootp.freeforums.net/thread/25/official-rulebook
5. Keep in mind as you sign FA, you have (close to) 100 players, and a max of 125 in total. You're going to want wiggle room so your draft picks have a place to go, as well as adding players via trade.
Miscellaneous
1. A few GMs have asked about tanking. While we don't have any specific rules in place against it, and in reality, it's a legit strategy in sim leagues, though I would argue MUCH less in baseball than others, since draft picks take at least 3-4 years to have any impact.
2. That said, if anyone is playing a player in the minors who clearly should be in the pro's, past any super 2 benefit. It will be looked at. For instance anyone playing Aaron Judge or Cody Bellinger in minors this year would obviously be not allowed. A guy like Acuna, who has OK rates this year, but hadn't done anything in MLB, would be fine to keep in minors. Any specific cases on a year to year basis will be dealt with. Spirit of the rules guys.
3. For year 1, we will be constantly addressing things that pop up, help us out, point out anything off, or unclear. In short order we will get everything documented.
4. As always, we will deal with things as they come up, and do what's best for the league. If/when it's something that doesn't benefit your team, remember, we're looking out for the league, both short, and long term. We aren't hear to screw over anyone.
5. Have fun! This will be a blast.
